Background

MSB Promotions was established in 1997 and created the Battle of the Killer B's Series. The Battle of the Killer B's Series runs from September through May and averages 12 events a year. The series is intended for strong "B" level players and lower "A" level players. Players who have ambitions to be competitive on Mike Zuglan's Joss Northeast Tour will use the Killer B's series as a stepping-stone. Some players who cut their teeth on the Killer B's series and now are proven Joss Tour players are Tom "Shorty" D'Alfonso, Mike Minichello, Tony Ruberto and Darren Belliveau.

The Killer B's series follows a simple formula. Establish a low yearly membership fee of $25; low event entry fee of $40 and low overhead creates larger prize funds and large tournament fields. End result, the rooms attract a large field of players for a good day of business and the players have a competitive event to participate in with a great payout. The 2002-2003 Killer B's Series averaged a field size of 48 players and the average prize fund was over $1,500. By the end of the series, over $25,000 in prizes were distributed.

Series Format

The standard 9-Ball tournament format is

•  One day events

•  Player practice starts at 11:00 AM

•  Players Meeting starts at approximately 12:00 PM (Noon)

•  Races to 7

•  Texas Express Rules as interpreted by MSB Promotions - rules can be found at www.texasexpress.com

•  Approximately, 25% of the field is in the cash

•  Optional Players' Pool is offered

Event formats are subject to change depending on the field size and venue accommodations.

Special Championship Events

There are a number of special events being held in the 2003-2004 series. As normal, the series will end with the Annual Killer B's Series Final Championship with $500 added. This event will be held on May 16,2004 at Fast Break Billiards in Plainville, MA. This is a great event held in celebration of the series where the Player of the Year is announced.

Last year, the 1 st Annual Killer B's All-Around Championship was held with great success. The 2 nd Annual $1,000 Added Killer B's All-Around Championship will be held again at Snooker's Café and Billiards on February 28-29, 2004. Just like last year, the winner of this event will have to be an accomplished player in 8-Ball, 9-Ball and Straight Pool.

To get ready for the 2 nd Annual Killer B's All-Around Championship, Rhode Island Billiards will be hosting the 1 st Annual Killer B's Straight Pool Championship with $300 added. This event will be held on December 28, 2003 just prior to the All-Around Championship.

Lastly, we will find out which Killer B player is the best 8-Ball player. Fast Break Billiards will be hosting the 1 st Annual Killer B's 8-Ball Championship on April 4, 2004.

Players must participate in at least two regular events to be eligible to play in the money added events.

Killer B's Series Sponsors

Once again, Mike Webb of Webb Custom Cues will be the Player of the Year sponsor. Mike is a generous sponsor of a custom cue for the Player of the Year. Remember to support our sponsor by supporting his business. If you're in the market for a new cue or require any cue maintenance or upgrade, feel free to contact Mike at webbcues@cox.net or 401 724-4476. Also, take a moment and visit his website at http://www.webbcues.com/ . Each year, Mike's workmanship with his custom cues takes leaps and bounds. His motto is, "Quality is no accident" and this is evident by his products.

TotalPool.info is the official Battle of the Killer B's Series website. TotalPool maintains tournament results, schedules, articles, player statistics, Player of the Year and Money standings, and forums. The forums are a great way for players to keep up-to-date and more importantly, trash talk. This site is another fantastic sponsor to the Killer B's and creates a valuable added benefit to the series.

Player of the Year Awards

Players are awarded points for every event they participate in. The bigger the field is and the higher a player places the more points they will earn. The player who accumulates the most points during the series will be named the Player of the Year.

The Player of the Year will be awarded a gorgeous custom-built Webb cue along with $500 cash. The runner-up to the Player of the Year will be awarded a $250 cash prize.

Player of the Year points are distributed based the size of the field and where the player places in the event. The following table illustrates the different points scales

Series Membership Fees

The 2003-2004 Killer B's Series membership fee is $25. The membership fees are used to derive the Player of the Year prize fund and some of the added money for the special events. The remainder of the fees is used to cover the administrative costs of promoting the series.

Players who want to participate in an event without being a member will be assessed a $10 non-member fee. This is intended for those players who know they will only play in one event. Each event the player participates in, he/she will be assessed another $10 non-member fee. If a player pays the non-member fee for three events, he/she will become a member.

Tournament Fee Breakdown

The entry fees at each event have three objectives. First and most importantly, create the prize fund for the players, second pay the room hosting the event and third pay the director for his/her time to run the event.
